Train a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not turn from it.
Sylvan Hills has been so important to me and my children in our spiritual walk with the Lord. I absolutely LOVE Sylvan Hills and can not imagine not having it in my life.
I have so many fond memories of camp that help sustain me through the years. One of my fondest memories is as an adult. I remember having to really talk my oldest son, Chance, into coming to camp. He wanted to stay home and be with his friends from school. I made him come to camp with his step-sister as soon as they were eligible to come. I heard some moaning and groaning on the way to camp and as I dropped him off, I just knew in my heart if I got him there just once, he would be hooked. I came up the road to the camp excited because I was back at camp, which gives me that feeling of being home, and I was excited to see and hear how Chance and Andrea’s week was. I don’t remember much else about that day other than the first thing they both wanted to know was, “When do we get to come back?”.
That was a great day for me as a mother because I knew I had a chance of getting Chance through the next 10 years of his life with a good foundation for the Lord to build on.
Sylvan Hills is a huge part of training a child in the way of the Lord. It is the beginnings of a child making their faith in Christ their own. It allows other Christian children to realize that they are not alone in the world. It gives a child strength for another year at school. It builds bonds with other Christian children which in many cases last a lifetime.
Sylvan Hills teaches children that are not raised in the church, how to worship, how to study, how to praise, and how to walk with the Lord. It taught me my Christian walk. Sylvan Hills is a very special tool that parents could and should use to prepare their child for the world and for the enemy, Satan. The enemy is coming prepared for them so we need to do all we can to prepare them and equip them.
In Christ’s love,
